VirtualPC and RedHat Linux 9.0

This past weekend, I was playing around with VirtualPC 5.2, much like others. In particular, since my journey into VMWare, I wanted to see how this software compares.

Installing VirtualPC on Windows Server 2003 went fairly smoothly actually. I thought I would have some problems, but it seemed to work fine.

My first attempt was installing RedHat Linux 9.0. Unfortunately, I had similar problems as last week when I tried to install Linux 9.0 on my VMWare: I have a corrupt 2nd disc. No fun at all. I will have to contact RedHat to see what they can do, so, in the meantime, I will stick with Linux 8.0

Update: Apparently, I am not the only one going crazy with this. According to Joseph Cooney, this “corruption“ is a problem with RedHat Linux 9.0 and the virtual machines (both VMWare and VirtualPC from my experience): the 2nd CD needs to be read from an ISO image that is expanded to a virtual CD as described in this post.

On a positive note, Andrew and I are looking for help in porting Rotor to RedHat Linux 8.0/9.0. Any takers?
